Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC), a Chinese car manufacturer, has officially introduced two products, the BJ-40 Plus and X-55 II, in Indonesia through its sole distributor PT JIO Distribusi Indonesia (JDI) to enliven the automotive market.
Chief Operating Officer of PT JDI, Dhani Yahya, stated that BAIC is one of the largest motor vehicle manufacturers in China, and its quality is unquestionable. He mentioned that BAIC not only sells its brands domestically in China but also exports them to other major countries worldwide and collaborates with various popular automotive manufacturers globally.
BAIC introduced its two flagship models in the medium SUV segment targeting different markets. The BJ-40 Plus comes with a 2,000cc DOHC 4-cylinder gasoline engine with Turbocharger, paired with an 8-speed transmission from the renowned German manufacturer ZF Friedrichshafen. It is equipped with an Electronic Transfer Case with Center Differential Lock from Borg-Wagner, making it suitable for challenging terrains.
The BJ-40 Plus, with its four-wheel drive system, delivers maximum power of 221 Hp and torque of 380 Nm, making it suitable for road and off-road conditions in Indonesia. This rugged and premium SUV is priced at Rp800 million, providing a premium look and performance favored by off-road enthusiasts and adventurous consumers.
The second model introduced in the Indonesian market is the BAIC X55-II, a medium SUV with front-wheel drive (FWD) and a Magic-Core 4-cylinder, 16-valve, 1500cc DOHC Turbocharger engine developed in collaboration with META Engineering from Germany. It features a 7-Speed Double Clutch (7-Speed DCT) transmission, recognized as one of the top transmissions in China.
The BAIC X55-II delivers 185 Hp and 305 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds. Its performance and technology are comparable to premium vehicles in the same segment, offering a unique and modern design that aligns with current market trends.
PT JDI is optimistic about the rapid acceptance of these models in Indonesia due to their competitive prices ranging from Rp400 million. They believe that these models cater to the diverse needs of Indonesian consumers and will help them capture a growing market share in the automotive industry over the next five years.
