Kemenkumham’s Directorate General of Human Rights and Law (Kemenkumham) is translating Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 60 of 2023 on the National Business and Human Rights Strategy (Stranas BHAM) into English to help global citizens understand the potential for business-human rights cooperation with Indonesia.
Director General of Human Rights at Kemenkumham, Dhahana Putra, opened a forum group discussion in Jakarta on Monday, stating that the translation of the Perpres was done to introduce Indonesia’s efforts in mainstreaming business and human rights to the international community.
“It is important for all of us to pay attention to the global community’s appreciation, by officially translating the national document Perpres 60/2023 into English,” Dhahana said during the event.
According to him, the translation of Perpres 60/2023 is necessary as it will support efforts to enhance the potential for cooperation related to business and human rights in Indonesia with foreign partners.
To expedite the translation process, Kemenkumham’s Directorate General of Human Rights, in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Indonesia (FNF Indonesia), organized a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) at a hotel in Jakarta on May 13-14, 2024.
In addition to opening the discussion, Dhahana also provided guidance to the attending team of translators.
During the two-day discussion, the Director of Human Rights Cooperation and the Director of Publication, Translation, Publication, and Information System of Legal Regulations were also present.
Previously, Kemenkumham had established national and regional task forces to anticipate human rights violations within the business environment.
The establishment of these task forces is a follow-up to the Stranas BHAM Perpres signed by President Joko Widodo on September 26, 2023, as a commitment of the government to realize a business-friendly human rights ecosystem.
“According to this Perpres, national and regional task forces have been formed. The national task force is led by the Minister of Law and Human Rights and includes relevant ministries and institutions,” said the Director of Human Rights Cooperation at the Directorate General of Human Rights, Kemenkumham, Harniati, in a discussion titled “Protecting Workers’ Human Rights” broadcasted online on Monday (29/4).
The national task force will have its own agenda for enforcement within the business environment, in collaboration with other institutions or ministries working with Kemenkumham.
Meanwhile, the regional task forces will be led by governors in each province. The work program at the national level will be aligned with the regional task forces’ activities.
