The Indonesian government, particularly Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP RI) Fahri Hamzah, is working on a policy to address the issue of high land prices in the country in order to make housing more affordable for low-income communities. The main focus is on stabilizing land prices to ensure affordability, as Fahri explained during a public discussion titled “Housing for All: Government Strategies to Accelerate Access to Decent Living” in Jakarta. He emphasized the need to bring down land prices by utilizing state-owned land and possibly offering long-term leases at zero cost. By reducing land costs, the overall cost of housing construction can be significantly lowered, as demonstrated by various affordable housing projects. Collaboration between the government, developers, banks, and the community is essential to achieve the government’s 3 Million Homes Program, according to former REI Chairman Paulus Totok Lusida. Regulatory alignment and coordination, especially with regional governments, are crucial for the success of such programs. The 3 Million Homes Program is highlighted as a key priority for President Prabowo’s administration, aiming to address the inadequate housing situation for a significant portion of the population. The administration is committed to ensuring prosperity for all levels of society through various initiatives and strategic policies, including the provision of free meals, school renovations, health checks, and the affordable housing program. Every effort is being made to ensure that public funds are used effectively to benefit the people.
