Two high school students from Papua had the opportunity to participate in Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebrations as members of the elite national flag-raising troop, Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka), at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta alongside President Prabowo Subianto. Franciscus Sakfiris Pahabolisage and Stincek Laramiapa, representing Papua Pegunungan Province and Papua Tengah Province respectively, were filled with pride and excitement to be part of this event. Franciscus expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness the ceremony in person, something he had only seen on TV or his phone before. He also thanked the President for selecting them to participate. On the other hand, Stincek shared her commitment to delivering her best performance and raising the national flag with pride. Both students underwent a rigorous selection process, with Franciscus highlighting the physical training as a significant challenge. Despite initial doubts, both students are thrilled to be part of the Paskibraka team and are looking forward to the Independence Day ceremony. They emphasized the importance of teamwork, unity, and camaraderie during their training, where they learned to support each other and work together effectively. Despite feelings of nervousness, both students are excited and proud to have earned this opportunity through their hard work and dedication.
