Dharsono. Be careful, Pak Prabowo. Do not get too involved with Pak Ton’s family. You know his background.’ I responded, ‘Sir, I was a subordinate of Pak Ton, and I am proud of it. I don’t see any problem with helping his family.’ Pak Ton was eventually released from prison. He was not promoted and chose to retire from the TNI because he was deeply disappointed with the Army’s ingratitude towards him. Toward the end of his life, Pak Ton became a social and cultural activist, dedicated to preserving Sundanese culture. He was a wise, firm, and courageous leader. He loved peace, and he had a strong sense of ethics. He was a great figure in the TNI and the Siliwangi Division. I respected him as a leader and a teacher. When I was discharged as Pangkostrad, I visited him in a nursing home in Garut, West Java. I was glad to be able to spend some time with an old friend and a teacher who had influenced my life greatly. I will always remember him and cherish the moments of learning from him.
