During the 79th Independence Day Ceremony at the State Palace in IKN, a moment of warmth was captured between Indonesian President Joko Widodo and President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto. The two were seen seated next to each other, with Prabowo on Jokowi’s right and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo on his left.
After the ceremony, when Jokowi was prompted to proceed to the honor podium, Prabowo waited for him to sit down first. Earlier, after leading the commemoration of the proclamation moments at the Nusantara Capital (IKN), Jokowi shook hands with Prabowo.
When Jokowi returned to his podium, Prabowo stood to greet him and extended his hand for a handshake. They were then seen chatting and exchanging smiles. Prabowo wore a black Javanese traditional beskap outfit with an Udeng blangkon, while Jokowi was dressed in a Kustin Kutai traditional attire.
Their camaraderie and closeness were evident before the start of the ceremony, with Jokowi waiting for Prabowo in one of the rooms at the Nusantara Capital. Prabowo greeted Jokowi with a namaste gesture upon his arrival.
The Independence Day Ceremony, the first of the 79th year, was held at the State Palace in the new capital, attended by Jokowi and Prabowo. In Jakarta, the event at the Merdeka Palace was attended by Vice President of Indonesia KH. Ma’ruf Amin and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
